If Massachusetts Democrats are counting on a last-minute campaign stop by Barack Obama to seal a win for Martha Coakley, maybe they should ask Jon Corzine and Creigh Deeds how well Obama's visit went over with voters of New Jersey and Virginia, respectively.
Both Corzine and Deeds were defeated last November by underdog Republican candidates despite endorsement and numerous campaign visits by Obama.
A loss by the Democrat in Tuesday's special election for the U.S. Senate seat held by Ted Kennedy since 1963 would send Democratic Party officials jumping out of tall buildings.
