Obama Recession Hits Berks County Hard

From a story by Karen Miller in the Reading Eagle:
Foreclosures in Berks County totaled 1,625 in 2009, the highest number ever recorded in Berks, according to the prothonotary's office.

The 2009 figure of 1,625 represents a 105.18 percent increase in foreclosures in the 11-year period starting in 1999, an 18.87 percent increase over the foreclosures reported in 2008 and a 56.7 increase over the foreclosures reported in 2007.

"Unless the economy makes a tremendous, tremendous improvement, I think we're going to see it stay that high - and we may well see it grow higher," Prothonotary Marianne R. Sutton said Thursday.
