Some good news for Montco GOP

There's a light at the end of the tunnel for the Montgomery County Republican Party -- and no, it's not an oncoming train.

Reporter Margaret Gibbons has some good news for the beleaguered party, which saw its once-commanding lead in voter registration vanish this year. (And let's not go into internal dissension thanks to Turncoat Jim Matthews and the party's ongoing money problems.)

But not all is doom-and-gloom for Montco Republicans, according to Gibbons.

The Republican Party remains the majority party in the majority of the county's 62 municipalities, Gibbons says. Democrats have majority status in just 18 of those municipalities, she adds. (In other words, once the hoopla over the Obama/Clinton race dies down and after Bob Kerns takes over as Montco GOP chairman, there's a good chance things will return to normal.)

From Gibbons' latest story, which includes the latest registration numbers from each of the 62 municipalities:
The Democrats pulled five additional municipalities into the "D" column since the registration cycle that concluded last November. The five new Democratic municipalities include Plymouth, Whitemarsh, Upper Dublin, Lansdale and North Wales.

The 13 municipalities previously having a Democratic majority are Ambler, Bridgeport, Conshohocken, Jenkintown, Narberth, Norristown, Pottstown, West Conshohocken, Abington, Cheltenham, Lower Merion, Springfield and West Pottsgrove.
