At least 8,000 Montgomery County residents have requested absentee ballots for the April 22 primary election.
"This is a record number for a primary election and a lot more than we had anticipated six months ago," Montgomery County Voter Services Director Joseph R. Passarella told reporter Margaret Gibbons. "I'm sure that the turnout next Tuesday for the Democratic primary election is going to be very heavy."
The 8,869 requests included 6,844 from Democrats and 2,025 from Republicans, according to Gibbons. In 2004, there were 3,010 requests for absentee ballots for the primary election, Gibbons says.

The Patriot-News in Harrisburg is reporting that nearly 110,000 Pennsylvania residents have requested absentee ballots for the April 22 primary.
