Berks commissioner backs Hornberger in 125th House race

One of the most watched Legislative races in 2008 will be the 125th state House seat in Berks and Schuylkill counties.

Two Republicans are running in the April 22 primary, with the winner challenging freshman state Rep. Tim Seip, a Democrat.

The two GOP candidates, Gary Hornberger and James P. McGovern, met at a candidates' forum, where Republican Berks County Commissioner Christian Leinbach announced support for Hornberger.

Seip was a surprise winner in 2006 over Hornberger, who defeated longtime state Rep. Bob Allen, a supporter of the 2005 pay raise.

A lot of political heavyweights failed to back Hornberger, a reformer, because they were upset that he knocked off one of the political dinosaurs in Harrisburg.

If Republicans want to win back the 125th District seat, they need to unite behind one candidate.
