Charlton Heston, one of my favorite actors, passed away over the weekend at age 84.
Heston made more than 100 movies during nearly five decades in Hollywood. I've seen at least two-thirds of his films. I've watched some ("The Ten Commandments," "Planet of the Apes") at least 20 times each.
He was so good in so many films and so many genres for so long that it's hard to pick my favorite Charlton Heston films. So here is my list of 10 favorite Heston films by decade.
Favorite Charlton Heston films from the 1950s:
Ben-Hur; The Ten Commandments; Julius Caesar; The Greatest Show on Earth; Arrowhead; The Naked Jungle; Secret of the Incas; The President's Lady; The Buccaneer; The Private War of Major Benson
Favorite Charlton Heston films from the 1960s:
Planet of the Apes; The Agony and the Ecstasy; El Cid; Khartoum; The Greatest Story Ever Told; The War Lord; 55 Days at Peking; Major Dundee; Will Penny; The Pigeon That Took Rome
Favorite Charlton Heston films of the 1970s:
Soylent Green; The Omega Man; Earthquake; Airport 1975; Midway; The Three Musketeers; Skyjacked; The Four Musketeers; Beneath the Planet of the Apes; Gray Lady Down
