Philly.com is reporting that former CBS3 anchor Alycia Lane has landed a job with KNBC as a weekend anchor and general-assignment reporter.
Lane was a rising star in Philadelphia until she was charged in an altercation with a New York City policewoman. She was also involved in another high-profile controversy involving her former co-anchor, Larry Mendte, who was charged with hacking into Lane's e-mail.
Both Lane and Mendte were fired by CBS3 and became tabloid fodder for months.
From a Philly.com story by Tirdad Derakhshani:
CBS3 alumna Alycia Lane is going back on the air - on the West Coast. Lane will sign a deal today with KNBC, the NBC-owned and -operated station in Los Angeles, as a weekend anchor and general-assignment reporter.
"Alycia is an experienced anchor and skilled reporter who has a tremendous ability to engage and connect with the audience," KNBC president Craig Robinson said in a statement. "Her energy and talent will be great assets to KNBC, and we look forward to her contributions to our newsroom."
Lane left Philly in July to join her boyfriend, Chris Booker, who got a job in June doing afternoon radio at a CBS station in L.A.
Lane was fired from CBS3 in January 2008 after an altercation with New York City police. Charges against her were later dropped. Lane, who was unavailable for comment yesterday, is suing CBS3 and her former coanchor, Larry Mendte, on the ground that they ruined her career. CBS3 fired Mendte in June 2008 after federal charges were filed accusing him of hacking into Lane's e-mail. He pleaded guilty to those charges, but has since asked that the court alter or vacate his sentence.
KNBC's release didn't mention the circumstances surrounding her firing or the ensuing legal battles.
