Here's a letter to the editor written by Bill Madara form today's edition of The Mercury:
Political hacks run Montco
We often wonder where it begins. How do these hacks get in a position where they can lead the system for as long as they are able? A genesis took place in January 2008. A political hack train pulled out of Montgomery County government thanks to coal tender, Jim Matthews, and the engineer, Joe Hoeffel, two well-established political hacks.
Free rides and created positions went to November election losers Amuso, Carlonia, and Cheri. Pre-election promises and reform went out the window when they lost. How can these losers assume these positions without a sense of guilt for becoming part of what they campaigned to change? How can they look the community in the eyes when everyone knows they are legalized thieves sucking money out of the county treasury?
Do these losers ever give a thought of the young couples and seniors who struggle to pay their salaries? I doubt it. They are too busy worrying that they might miss another opportunity to feather their nests.
Hoeffel campaign aides, Maza and Albert, had their ships come in when Matthews teamed with Hoeffel. Did Matthews get anything besides appeasement for his vendetta against Castor?
The game never changes — just the players with new faces. When these vermin move on, other opportunists will crawl out from under a rock. Win or lose they will paw their way into filling their pockets. Thanks Jim, keep shoveling. If you slow down, Joe is going to bounce a few hardballs off your empty vindictive head.
