Common-sense: The energy mess

This may be difficult for some regular readers to believe, but I don't have a monopoly on common-sense. There are many other people out there who have good ideas or can see past the smoke-screens and get to the heart of an issue.

I'm on the lookout for smart people who make sense. Below is a letter to the editor originally published in the Reading Eagle from a Berks County resident who understands why the United States has put itself over a barrel on energy.
Energy wounds self-inflicted

We're paying high prices for gasoline for three primary reasons. The first is that we refuse to use the plentiful oil in our own nation and off our shores, preferring instead to purchase it from our enemies.

The second is the ethanol boondoggle. A moment's reflection would persuade anyone that fuel produced in this way will be very expensive.

The third is the hysteria over the cheapest, safest and most abundant form of energy production: nuclear energy.

These wounds are self-inflicted, and there's hope we may wake up some day and come to our senses, the sooner the better.
