800 will decide future of Montco GOP

Margaret Gibbons sets the stage for the upcoming election of a new chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Committee.

Either Bob Kerns or Jim Vlahos will pick up the pieces of the shambles current county chairman Ken Davis has left of the once-mighty Republican Party in Montgomery County.

The May 8 vote for chairman will be taken by about 800 Republican committee members, some 15 of whom face primary election contests, Gibbons notes.

Municipalities where there are primary election committee races include Norristown, Lower Frederick, Lower Providence, Montgomery Township, Upper Pottsgrove, Worcester, Plymouth, Upper Hanover and Upper Providence.

Democratic committee people are elected every four years; their next election will not be until 2010.

Will there be a Republican Party in Montgomery County in 2010? It depends on who is elected chairman in 2008.

I have been a registered Republican & proud of it for over 60 years. Both "R" & "D" have had great people running our state & country. In 2010, after the "Presidential" elected official has settled in...watch the change in registration or even a third party entering our system.

Matthews' guy in the race, Jim Vlahos, will be forced to drop out. He has no support, not because he is a bad candidate, just because, well, he is Matthews' guy. Nobody wants to be that.

I don't understand the connection between Matthews and Vlahos? I think I remember Vlahos supporting Castor and Ellis last year.
