After 14 years of decline, the teen birth rate in the United States has increased for the second year in a row, according to new government statistics.
"The teen birth rate in the United States declined dramatically in past years because of both less sex and more contraception," said Sarah Brown, CEO of The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. "The teen birth rate is probably now going up for the opposite set of reasons - some combination of more sex and less contraception."
A related survey says that parents are the biggest influence on teenagers engaging in sexual activity and using birth control. So blame the rise in teen pregnancies on parents who are want to be friends with their teenagers instead of setting ground rules.
