Readers sound off

One of the most popular features in The Pottstown Mercury is the daily "Sound Off" column, which allows readers to leave quick opinions over the phone. Here's a sampling of some of my favorite comments from the past week:
I always wondered what President Obama meant when he said he was going to have change. Now I think I know what he means — the amount of money the taxpayer's going to have left in his pocket after he and the Democrats stop their spending and taxing.

You can bash all of our past presidents all day long but say something against Obama and you're labeled a racist. Clearly he is not presidential material. Time will bear that out.

One more nominee runs for cover, an advisor on leave after his offices are raided by FBI agents, a treasury secretary who can't explain his plan to fix the financial mess, a press secretary who can't answer simple questions, a president who insults our allies and reaches out to terrorists, a speaker of the house who demonizes corporate CEO's for excess but flies about in a private jet. This administration is dysfunctional.

The geniuses in Washington are complaining about how the banks that received the billion dollars in loans are bonusing their top executives. What did they expect? That's no different than all the pork in the stimulus package.

Commander In Chief, what a joke. This man is so cowardly he hid when he signed the pork riddled budget. I guess he didn't have the guts to face the people he lied for. He promised to end earmarks — 7.7 billion in the bill he signed, millions to build a tribute to the Kennedys. They're one of the richest families in America. Let them spend their own money. Obama takes our money, promises to use it for our benefit and then diverts it.

Has Obama kept one promise? Policies increasing abortion, pork and earmark bills, tax cheats, 21 and counting lobbyists, out of control spending, 900 million to Hamas-controlled Gaza while abandoning Israel and disrespecting our allies. Open your eyes. Obama's just another politician full of broken promises.

Right now it seems that the young people are really infatuated with Barack Obama and the Democratic party. Let's see what they have to say 20 years from now when they are stuck paying for the spending of Obama and the Democrats.

Here it is ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to say it. Obama is a socialist. I have the guts to say it. He is a socialist.

More spending, more borrowed money, more waste. April 15 there are protests planned all over the country. People have had enough of the foolishness. Those people who played by the rules are now under attack by the Obama administration who want to take what they earned and saved all their lives and pass it out. The liberal policies have already crashed the stock market and cut the value of people's homes in half.
