This is not going to sit well with the public school teachers who helped get Barack Obama elected president.
The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools says it welcomes Obama's call for states to remove the "artificial caps" on charter school growth that now exist in 26 states and the District of Columbia.
"Right now, there are caps on how many charter schools are allowed in some states, no matter how well they are preparing our students," Obama said. "That isn't good for our children, our economy, or our country."
More charter schools means more competition and that means more accountability. Those are fighting words for the public school unions.
"I call on states to reform their charter rules, and lift caps on the number of allowable charter schools, wherever such caps are in place," Obama said.
