Newspaper: Obama breaks another promise

From the Roses and Thorns editorial in today's edition of The Pottstown Mercury:
THORNS to President Obama for breaking a major campaign promise to do away with pork spending by Congress, commonly known as earmarks.

Obama pledged during last year's campaign to eliminate this wasteful spending, but on Wednesday he signed a $410 billion spending bill that included more than 8,500 earmarks requested by members of Congress mainly to please lobbyists.

Obama knew he was breaking his pledge to the American people. He called the omnibus spending bill "imperfect" and signed it privately without the usual fanfare that marked all the other legislation Obama has signed during his first 50 days in office.

The president had an opportunity to break from the politics of the past. So much for change you can believe in.
