'Running Bear' by Johnny Preston
Singer Johnny Preston, who had a huge hit with the novelty song "Running Bear," has died at age 71. He's gone to that happy hunting ground in the sky.
Preston had a few other minor hits in the late 1950s and early 1960s, but "Running Bear" was his signature song. It was written by J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson.
"Running Bear" was covered by many other artists, including Louis Armstrong, George Jones, Pat Boone, Sonny James and Tom Jones.
