O'Pake, Santoni and WAMs

So what if the state is $4 billion in debt. Harrisburg politicians continue to spend your tax dollars on pet projects.

From the editorial page of The Pottstown Mercury:
THORNS in these difficult economic times to state legislators for coming up with $5 million in state redevelopment money for a refurbishment of FirstEnergy Stadium, home of the Reading Phillies. While we support economic development and root for the Reading Phillies, we have to question priorities in state spending when the city of Reading and area schools are dealing with serious fiscal crises. The stadium is embarking on a $10 million facelift, and half of the money is coming from the state, via Sen. Michael O'Pake and Rep. Dante Santoni Jr., both Democrats. The Reading Phillies represent an important economic attraction in Reading, as O'Pake pointed out, but we think $10 million is a little rich in these times. A lesser improvement with a lot less state money tied to it would make more sense.
