-- Republican Whip Mike Turzai, R-Allegheny, after the House voted 102-96 Wednesday to raise taxes by $1 billion. The vote broke down to 100 Democrats and 1 Republican supporting higher taxes, with 94 Republicans and 2 Democrats opposing the tax hikes.
Democrats voted to increase taxes on cigarettes by 25 cents a pack and force Pennsylvania businesses to pay a higher capital stock and franchise tax.
The vote came on Day 99 of the state's budget impasse.
