Rendell hands out $642M in 5 days

Ed Rendell spent five days on a bus crisscrossing Pennsylvania handing out giant cardboard checks.

The final stop was Reading Friday evening, where Rendell cut the ribbon on a new IMAX movie theater and unveiled plans for a downtown hotel.

The final tally from the 16-stop, five-day tour? Rendell announced $642 million in state financing for what he calls "economic stimulus" projects in 25 counties.

Critics say the government handouts will not result in promised jobs or economic vitality.

Tony, I remember a few years ago a Times leader front page headline read that said: "Renell brings jobs and money"

Very misleading, if you read the article...there is no bias in the media, there is no bias in the media....

Anyway, He dropped off a check to the Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce for 25 million. He did this a few other times. Sprinkle a million here a million there, I guess this is something a governor can do....anywho....

2 questions:

Where are these jobs ? It's been years.

Is there a way we can see what all this money was spent on ?

NEPAConservative raises some good questions. The Associated Press did an examination of Rendell's first term of government handouts and discovered that less than half of the promised jobs ever materialized. And somebody should take a look at where Rendell is dropping off the checks. I suspect it's in legislative districts where Democrats are struggling to hold on to seats.
