Can either candidate deliver on promises?

Regardless of who wins in November, don't expect any monumental shift in policies, warns Diane Swonk, chief
economist of Mesirow Financial, in her August issue of Themes on the Economy.

"Some things, like increased regulation, higher overall tax rates, and constraints on government spending are inevitable, regardless of who gets elected and what he has promised," notes Swonk.

So I guess we should all stay home on Nov. 4?

Swonk makes a good case that very little changes in the lives of everyday Americans regardless of who wins the White House, but do you want more liberals on the Supreme Court promoting abortion and restricting Second Amendment rights? Do you want to pay more in taxes? Do you want to surrender in Iraq? That's the Obama platform in a nutshell. Maybe there is a difference, after all.

Handicapping Post-Election Year Policy Shifts
