4-day work week catching on

I'd love to work four days a week and have three days off, but that's not likely going to happen at a newspaper that publishes seven days a week.

Still, the trend is catching on, especially with government agencies.

The Philadelphia Business Journal takes a look at the growing trend in the Philadelphia area, spurred by the recent rise in energy prices.

Most of the government offices experimenting with the four-day work week are county and municipal offices, according to the Business Journal.

From the article by Athena D. Merritt:
Pennsylvania has no plans to follow the state of Utah in implementing a four-day work week, though some of the 78,000 state employees under Gov. Ed Rendell have flexible time. The state is looking into a commuter benefits program as a means of providing relief from high gas prices, Mia DeVane, a spokeswoman from the Office of Administration said. New Jersey’s Governor’s office also reported no plans for compressed work weeks.
